The orange grains of Cape Cod Seasoning add bright reddish flecks and a zesty taste to seafood boil broths, peel-and-eat shrimp and steamed crabs.
Seafood seasonings like this one originated in New England and the Chesapeake Bay area in the 1930s. At that time, crabs were so plentiful that bars gave them away for free. Seasonings with a significant salt content were developed to encourage patrons to buy more beverages.
